New York men's soccer team edged by SUNY Maritime, 2-1 at Reinhart Field on Wednesday afternoon

The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team is still searching for its first victory in the month of October, as the Knights dropped a hard-fought match to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime by a score of 2-1 in a contest played at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY. With the loss, Berkeley has now dropped three consecutive matches and sits at a record of 8-5, while SUNY Maritime upped its mark to 8-4 on the year.

The match was scoreless for most of the opening session, until the Privateers finally broke through for the contest's first goal in the 45th minute when Kieran Donnelly fed the ball to Colton Gallt who was all alone on a breakaway. Gallt caught Berkeley College netminder Masahiro Kiuchi off the line and buried the ball into the net to give his team a 1-0 advantage. SUNY Maritime out-shot the Knights by a count of 11-3 in the first half.

In the 68th minute, SUNY Maritime's Corey Cartano scored his second goal of the season to push the lead over the Knights to 2-0. Berkeley was able to cut the Privateers' lead in half when Kiuchi – who logged 75:21 in goal before being relieved – scored a goal at 84:44 (from Victor Marotta) to make the score 2-1 in favor of SUNY Maritime.

Berkeley was unable to score the equalizer in the final 5:16 of the second half, as the Privateers held on for a one-goal win.

Privateers netminder Karl Weber played well in net for his team, logging 78:12 and making three stops while not allowing a goal. Dillon Quinlan-Huertas played the final 11:48 and made a pair of saves while yielding one tally.

SUNY Maritime out-shot the Knights 23-10 for the match, while also getting 18 corner kick opportunities compared to zero for Berkeley.

The Knights will return to action on Sunday afternoon as Berkeley will take to the road to battle SUNY ESF in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 1:00pm.
