Lions Roll Past Mont Alto

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team earned in sixth-straight victory, powering past Penn State Mont Alto 84-45 on Sunday afternoon at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

The Lions (14-5, 9-0 PSUAC) made 7-of-11 shots from beyond the arc during the first 20 minutes and led by 25 at halftime.

Brandywine trailed 4-3 during the early stages of the game, but Myeisha Matos (Philadelphia, Pa./JW Hallahan Catholic) sank three baskets during a 13-2 Lions' run that gave Brandywine a 16-6 edge.

Ashley Madison ended the surge with a triple for Mont Alto, but Brandywine would allow just two points over the next nine minutes, building a 26-point cushion. Stacey MacArthur (Newtown Square, Pa./Delco Christian) buried her fourth triple of the opening half, making the score 39-13 before Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) followed with a pair of three-pointers to extend the lead to 30.

Brandywine continued to roll in the second half as MacArthur converted a three-point play and then knocked down a triple to make the score 59-25.

Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) pushed the Lions' advantage to 41 with a jumper at the 11:41 mark and the lead would not dip below 37 the rest of the way.

MacArthur buried five three-pointers, leading all scorers with 18 points, while Gledhill canned a trio of threes and shot 4-of-4 from the free throw line to finish with 13 points.

Brandywine shot 47 percent from the field, drained 10 triples and connected on 10-of-11 shots from the charity stripe. The Lions forced 29 turnovers, converting Mont Alto miscues into 39 points.

Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) tallied seven assists, five rebounds and four steals, while Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) chipped in 10 points and four steals.

Alexis Small recorded 11 points for Mont Alto, which held a 57-36 edge on the boards, but shot just 23 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line.

Brandywine plays five of its final six regular-season games on the road, beginning with a trip to Penn State Lehigh Valley on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
