Fayette No Match For Lions In 78-55 Rout

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team rolled to its ninth-straight victory, the last eight of which coming by double figures, as the Lions posted a 78-55 triumph at Penn State Fayette on Friday evening.

The Lions received contributions from everyone on the roster as 11 players scored at least two points, with seven netting five or more, and 12 players pulled down at least one rebound.

Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) led the scoring output for the Lions, who shot over 45 percent from the field, by pouring in 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor (4-5 FT). Kendra Stanford (Philadelphia, Pa./William Bodine) tallied 12 points, while Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) recorded 11 points.

Crystal Miller (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) added eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds and Chantel Hatton (Philadelphia, Pa./Chester) totaled nine points and five boards in 10 minutes of action.

The Lions held a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding Fayette 47-23. Brandywine also forced the hosts into 23 turnovers.

After a slow start that saw Brandywine lead by four points through one quarter, the Lions began to pull away during the second period, extending the lead to nine points when Miller converted a three-point play at the 6:02 mark. The margin swelled to double figures for the first time on Gledhill's triple four minutes later, and James' layup with 11 ticks remaining before the half gave the Lions a 35-22 at intermission.

Brandywine's offense caught fire in the third quarter as the Lions netted points during eight of their first 10 possessions of the second half after connecting on eight-straight shots from the field. A three-pointer from Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) capped a 19-10 run four minutes after halftime, making the lead 54-32.

Fayette was not able to trim its deficit lower than 17 points the rest of the way.

Brandywine (15-5, 9-0 PSUAC) will play four of its final five games on its home floor beginning with Tuesday's 6:00 pm game versus Penn State Mont Alto.
