Brandywine Claims Key PSUAC Battle Over Hazleton

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Bill Walleekendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester) scored twice during the first half as Penn State Brandywine earned a key PSUAC men's soccer victory over Penn State Hazleton by a 3-0 count on Sunday morning.

With the win, Brandywine improved to 3-1 in conference play and is now one-of-three PSUAC squads at the top of the standings with one loss, while Hazleton dropped its second league game and now stands at 5-2.

Walleekendeh opened the scoring during the 16th minute when he sent a long drive from 30 yards out past Hazleton netminder James Fisher. He added a second goal 20 minutes later after speeding past the Hazleton defense and tapping the ball over Fisher's head and into the back of the net.

Dan Tyler's (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) insurance tally with two minutes in regulation, his third of the year, iced the game for the Lions.

Brandywine goalkeeper Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) withstood a barrage of Hazleton shots in the second half, stopping five during the final 45 minutes and seven overall in the game, to record his first shutout of the season. The Lions have now blanked two consecutive opponents and posted shutouts in three of their last five games.

Brandywine treks to New Jersey on Monday for a nonconference game at Centenary beginning at 3:00 pm.
