Brandywine Gains Three PSUAC Victories At Weekend Tri-Matches

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – Penn State Brandywine opened its weekend trip to western Pennsylvania with three-straight, three-set PSUAC volleyball victories to extend its winning streak to eight, the team's longest since 2012. However, the Lions were defeated in their finale, falling to Penn State Fayette 3-1.

During a 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-7) triumph at Penn State Beaver, junior Nicole Costa recorded a team-best 12 kills, while hitting .588. Classmate Molly Nichols added seven kills and Miranda Biondi tallied 29 assists and five aces. Junior Kimberly Russo paced the Lions defensively with six digs.

Freshman Nicole Poissant registered eight kills and seven digs, helping Brandywine to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18) win against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Costa and junior Kelsi Wiest both produced seven kills, while Biondi handed out 31 assists.

On Sunday, Brandywine collected a straight-set victory (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) over Penn State New Kensington before falling to Fayette. The Lions opened the match by taking the first set 25-11, but dropped the final three sets 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.

Against New Kensington, freshman Melanie Kempf collected 10 kills, while Wiest tallied eight and Biondi amassed four aces. Nichols recorded 10 digs and Costa accumulated a pair of blocks.

Russo paced Brandywine with 16 digs versus Fayette, while Costa delivered five blocks and Kempf added three. Poissant collected eight kills and eight blocks. Biondi dished out 47 assists during the final day of action.

Brandywine (8-5, 5-1 PSUAC) steps out of conference play when it visits NCAA Division III Rosemont on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
