Brandywine Victorious In Final Regular-Season Games

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine softball team closed out the regular season with a pair of victories on Thursday afternoon, winning by scores of 6-0 and 15-3 at Penn State Schuylkill.

Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) fired her sixth complete-game shutout of the season in game one. In 7.0 innings, DeRosa struck out six and scattered three hits, all singles, to earn her seventh win.

Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) each drove in two runs, while Allman, Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) and Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) all posted two-hit performances.

Allman recorded run-scoring base hits in the second and sixth innings. Foeldes added a two RBI double during Brandywine's four-run second frame, while Anderson put Brandywine in the lead with a groundout that scored Segich in the first and tacked on a sacrifice fly one inning later.

Anderson and Foeldes both continued their hot hitting during game two as each collected three hits and drove in five runs. Velez and Segich recorded their second two-hit games of the day and Stephanie Harvey (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) added to the hit parade with two knocks, giving Brandywine 14 in the nightcap.

Anderson delivered an RBI single and scored on Foeldes' double to give Brandywine a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Schuylkill answered with the game's next three runs, but Brandywine blew the game open by scoring 10 times in the third. Foeldes lifted a three-run home run, her second of the season, and later singled in Anderson. After recording an RBI base hit to start the frame, Anderson pushed three more runs across with a double, while Harvey padded the lead by knocking in a pair with a two-base hit.

Two innings later, Harvey capped the scoring with a second two-run double.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) upped her record to 5-2 this spring after striking out two and allowing just one earned run on four hits in 5.0 innings.

Brandywine (19-13, 15-1 PSUAC), which had already clinched the PSUAC regular-season title for the third-straight year, will be the No. 1 seed from the Eastern Division in next week's PSUAC Tournament in Scranton (May 7-8). The Lions will face either Penn State New Kensington or Penn State Fayette at 1:00 pm on May 7.
