Lions Top Wilkes-Barre For Second-Straight Win

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine limited Penn State Wilkes-Barre to 18 second-half points en route to a 57-45 Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference women's basketball victory, the Lions' second-straight triumph, on Sunday afternoon.

Brandywine (2-1, 2-0 PSUAC) broke open the game, which it led 28-27 at the half, by allowing just six made field goals during the final 20 minutes. Wilkes-Barre (3-3, 0-1) was held to 27 percent shooting overall, while connecting on 14-of-24 free throws.

The Lions jumped out to a 16-4 lead by using a 10-0 spurt, capped off with a three-pointer from Jilly Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara). Wilkes-Barre responded with 12-straight points to knot the score 16-16 after holding Brandywine without a point for nearly six minutes.

Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) ended the Lions' cold stretch with a jumper at the 7:24 mark and added five-straight points as Brandywine pushed in front, 25-19.

After Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) sank a pair of free throws to make the score 28-23, Wilkes-Barre tallied the final four points of the half to draw within one.

Shauntel Williams cut Brandywine's lead to 38-33 with a jumper at the 15:04 mark, but Wilkes-Barre went cold from the field as Brandywine clamped down on defense and held WB without a field goal over the next seven minutes. Brandywine took advantage, extending its lead to 14 after Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) netted six-straight points and Hinton and Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added baskets to make the score 48-34.

Wilkes-Barre cut the deficit as low as 10 points, but Jessy Gledhill answered with a triple and Brandywine would lead by double figures the rest of the way.

Jessy Gledhill scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 3-of-4 performance from beyond the arc, while Hinton poured in a game-high 18 points and added six rebounds and three steals.

Munro, Jessy Gledhill and Stacey MacArthur (Newtown Square, Pa./Delco Christian) all pulled down seven rebounds. Munro handed out four assists, while MacArthur collected three steals.

Brandywine connected on just 31 percent (21-66) of its field goals, but drilled 11-of-14 free throws and forced 23 Wilkes-Barre turnovers.

Williams tallied 13 points for Wilkes-Barre, while Sierra Eskridge recorded 13 rebounds.

Brandywine returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference road game at Arcadia. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
