Desales University registers a pair of second-half goals to defeat New Jersey men's soccer team 2-0 in Center Valley, PA

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team dropped its second consecutive contest, falling to the Bulldogs of Desales University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-0 in a match played in Center Valley, PA. With the defeat, the Knights slipped to 6-3 on the 2016 campaign, while the Bulldogs improved to 4-4-1 on the year.

After a scoreless first half, Desales University broke the tie in the 61st minute when Alex Peek sent a long pass over the top to Michael Kirby who sped past Berkeley College's defense to slip a ball home and give his team a 1-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs added an insurance goal less than nine minutes later when Peek sent a free kick pass into the box where Joey Malvestuto would head the ball into the net to give Desales University a 2-0 advantage. That lead held up for Bulldog netminder Dan Sulpizio, as he recorded a shutout, making six saves in the process.

Berkeley College held a 19-14 edge in the shots category, but Desales University was more opportunistic on the afternoon, blasting 10 shots on goal compared to just six for the Knights. Berkeley had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks, and the Knights were offsides four times compared to just twice for the opposition.

Knights goalkeeper Robert Parker collected five saves in the loss.

Berkeley will look to halt its losing streak at two matches as the Knights will return to action against Centenary College on Wednesday in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Start-time for that match is scheduled for 3:30pm.
