Freshmen Shine As Panthers Win Opener

| By:
BOX SCORE

Albany NY,

Freshman Erin Tersegno (Webster, NY / Webster Thomas) started her ACPHS career with a bang as she scored twice to lead the Panthers to a 3-0 victory over New Hampshire Technical Institute. The Panthers improve to 1-0 while NHTI drops to 0-1 following both teams' opening game.

This game was all Panthers from the get-go as Tersegno picked up her first goal in only the 6th minute. Following a NHTI turnover at the top of the box, Tersegno squared up to goal and rocketed a shot just below the roof of the net. It was the first of her career and the Panthers first goal of the young season. Following a flurry of chances for ACPHS, the Lynx had back-to-back shots on goal through freshman Shannon Hart. Hart picked up the ball on the right wing in consecutive minutes with eyes towards the back of the net, only to see one shot saved at the near post and one clang off the far post. The Panthers would then reapply the pressure, and would get their second goal in the 34th minute. A midfield turnover found junior Katie Parsels (Rochester, NY / Gates Chili), who delivered a perfectly weighted ball to freshman Molly Mancini (Galway, NY / Galway). With no one but the keeper to beat and Tersegno on her left, Mancini cut the ball back to her fellow freshman who finished with a simple tap-in for her second goal of the game.

The game would then be capped off by Mancini in the 70th minute, when Bianca Mascitelli's (Schenectady, NY / Schalmont) shot from distance tipped off the hands of the goalkeeper, leaving the freshman with an open net for her first collegiate goal. In the end, the Panthers fired 30 shots with 13 on target, to only seven and five for the Lynx. Tersegno finished with a line of 13 shots, six on target, and two goals. Mancini added a goal and an assist. Junior goalie Amy Jagareski (South Glens Falls / South Glens Falls) recorded five saves prior to being subbed out in the 75th minute. She left the game improving to 1-0, while her counterpart Marissa Fourtier made 10 saves in a losing effort.

The Panthers are back in action tomorrow (8/30) when they take on Paul Smith's College at 12pm right here in Albany. NHTI gets a week off and is home to Unity College next Saturday (9/5).
