On Saturday October 22 The King's College Women's Soccer team traveled to Albany to take on the SUNY-ESF Oaks in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Semi-finals. This marked the fourth straight year TKC would play a conference semi-final game.
The game was scoreless for much of the first half as the TKC defense of Stephanie Cantarero, Anne Sraders, Kathryn Brooks and Kylie Locklar along with goalkeeper Victoria McAlister fought off a relentless Oaks attack. But in the 24th minute Lauren Archer scored her 7th goal of the season as SUNY-ESY took a 1-0 lead. Just 12 minutes later Maureen McCarthy put TKC at a 2-0 deficit with her 3rd goal of the season. The Oaks outshot the Lady Lions 16-1 in the first half and attempted 4 corner kicks to TKC's 2.
The Oaks got off to a quick start in the second half as Archer scored her second of the game five minutes in for a 3-0 advantage. When SUNY-ESF scored two goals just three minutes apart in the 62nd and 65th minute it would be too much for TKC to overcome as the game would end in a 5-0 final.
With the loss TKC falls to 3-8 while SUNY-ESF improves to 11-2-1. The Oaks will take on Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences tomorrow in the HVIAC Final. The winner of this game will earn an automatic berth in the USCAA National Championships next month.
