Women's Soccer push past Pine Manor 7-0
Chestnut Hill, MA – The Vermont Tech Women's Soccer program earned its first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over the Pine Manor Gators.
Freshman Katlyn Newton (Morrisville, VT) got things going as she scored her first of three goals of the match in just one minute and twenty seconds into the game. Freshman Lindsey Greene (Chelsea, VT) was able to send a crossing ball out of the back for Newton to dribble into the 18 yard box and score. Greene would also score her first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute.
Freshman Kirstin Ward (Franklin, VT) also found the back of the net in the 21st minute off a through ball from Freshman Emily Ghio (Fairlee, VT), Ghio's first of two assist on the day.
Newton's second goal came in the first half in the 29th min when she was able to finish the shot from 10 yards out on a cross from Junior Gwenn Kearns (Jeffersonville, VT). Kearns would get her first goal of the season in the 66th minute of the game.
The Gators never let down as they were able to get four shots off on the green knights. Cadejia Matthews-Austin of Pine Manor went on a fast break in the 31st minute, but Sophomore Dani Cochran (St. Johnsbury, VT) was able to get Matthew-Austin to take the shot early as it bounced off the cross bar.
Vermont Tech opened the second half just like the first, finding the net in the 52nd minute as Newton found the back of the net for her first collegiate hat trick and her 7th goal of the season. Sophomore Quatie Allen-Hayden (Enosburg, VT) would round out the scoring for the green knights in the 75th minute of the game.
Next up : Vermont Tech women's soccer team has a midseason break and will play their next game on the road vs. Hampshire College on October 10, 2015 with a 1:00pm kick-off.
