Brandywine Falls At Home To York

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Logan Steckel scored 31 points and Penn State York pulled away for a 79-63 victory over the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team on Thursday at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

Steckel made 9-of-18 shots from the field, including four three-pointers, and connected on 9-of-10 free throws.

Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) netted a career-high 23 points, while Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) added 18 points and five rebounds.

The teams played nearly even during the first 10 minutes before York used a 10-3 spurt to grab a 20-14 advantage.

York remained in the lead until Davis sank a pair of free throws with 4:59 to play, knotting the score at 23-23.

Josh Jamison sank back-to-back layups as York built a nine-point lead, but Davis and Spencer drained baskets with under 45 seconds to play and Brandywine trailed by just five at intermission.

York netted the first seven points of the second half to increase its lead to 12 points.

Spencer sliced the deficit to four with back-to-back triples. Three minutes later, Davis sank a layup to bring Brandywine within two.

Brandywine trailed 47-44 when Jamison started a 13-2 run with a jumper. Jamison scored six points during the surge, which Lucas Jewel capped with a fast-break layup at the 6:08 mark.

The Lions pulled with nine points on four occasions and then sliced the York lead to seven following a pair of free throws from Kenneth Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington Carver) with 2:23 to play. However, those would be Brandywine's final points of the game as York ended the contest with  seven-straight points to pull away.

Murphy tallied 10 points for Brandywine, while Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) grabbed eight rebounds and Davis pulled down seven boards.

The Lions shot 39 percent from the field, while York connected on 45 percent of its shots. York held a 44-39 edge on the glass and forced 25 Brandywine turnovers.

Brandywine returns home Sunday to host Penn State Mont Alto at 3:00 pm.
