Brandywine Cruises To Sixth-Straight Win

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine defeated a PSUAC volleyball foe by a 3-0 count for the 11th-straight time as the Lions swept Penn State Wilkes Barre, winning by set scores of 25-4, 25-10, 25-16, to earn their sixth consecutive victory.

Brandywine received a match-high seven kills from Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby), while Dee Lovell (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) tallied six, along with two aces.

Kim Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) both registered four aces, while Russo and Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) both tallied four digs.

Biondi and Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) each collected 10 assists.

Brandywine ran out to an 11-1 lead during the first set and led by as many as 21 points in taking the frame 25-4. The Lions were just as dominant during set No. 2 as Lovell recorded three kills and two aces and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) closed out the set with an ace.

Wilkes Barre tied the third set at 8-8, but Poissant recorded four consecutive aces to help Brandywine pull away and the Lions would not be challenged again.

Brandywine (13-3, 11-0 PSUAC) plays its final nonconference match of the season Thursday night at Bryn Athyn (7:00 pm).
