Men’s Basketball Improves to 8-0 with 85-60 Win over Bears

Potsdam, NY – Four players scored in double figures paced by a game-high 24 points from junior Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) as the Roos stayed perfect on the season at 8-0 with an 85-60 victory against SUNY Potsdam on Sunday afternoon in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.

Annorh led the Roos with 24 points on 8-for-13 shooting in just 19 minutes of action. Romario Fletcher posted 13 points and Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) was effective with 12 points and five rebounds on 5-for-9 shooting in 14 minutes. Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points.

SUNY Canton jumped out to a quick 12-2 start over the first four minutes of play as Annorh scored the Roos first 10 points on a pair of lay-ups and three-pointers. SUNY Canton extended its lead to as many as 28 in the opening half after Pickett put the team up 36-8 after hitting from behind the arc.

The Roos were stifling defensively allowing the Bears (1-8) to score just eight points over the first 13:29 of the contest. SUNY Canton took a 46-24 lead into intermission.

Potsdam never got closer than 17 points the remainder of the game as SUNY Canton's lead ballooned to as many as 31 during the 85-60 victory. The Roos held a 46-35 on the glass including hauling down 17 offensive rebounds which led to a 16-9 advantage in second chance points. SUNY Canton turned 17 Bear turnovers into a 25-9 edge in points off turnovers and also held the upper hand in fast break points (12-2).

Vincent Smythe (12), Serigne Kane (11) and Nate Wyatte (10) finished in double figures for Potsdam. The Roos shot 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from distance, while the Bears connected on 37 percent of their field goals.

The men's basketball team is off until December 29th when it opens play in the College of Staten Island Tournament of Heroes.
