MacArthur's Big Second Half Keys Victory At Greater Allegheny

MCKEESPORT, Pennsylvania -- Stacey MacArthur (Newtown Square, Pa./Delco Christian) scored 17 of her team-high 19 points in the second half as the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team defeated Penn State Greater Allegheny 84-70 for its fourth-straight victory on Sunday afternoon.

MacArthur connected on 6-of-7 shots, including a pair of three-pointers, during the final 20 minutes to finish with 19 points overall, helping Brandywine (13-5) remain the only unbeaten team in PSUAC play at 8-0.

Myeisha Matos (Philadelphia, Pa./JW Hallahan Catholic) sank a pair of triples, including one that knotted the score at 42-42 during the first minute of the second half, after Brandywine had trailed by four at intermission.

MacArthur gave Brandywine a 51-50 lead with a three at the 15:57 mark, jumpstarting a 9-0 spurt, which she capped off just over two minutes later with another triple.

Greater Allegheny battled back to knot the score at 59-59 after Tori Johnston buried a three-pointer, but Jilly Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) answered with a trifecta for Brandywine during the Lions' ensuing possession. Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added layups to push Brandywine's lead to seven.

The Lions put the game away with a late 10-1 run, spurred by MacArthur and Encarnacion. The duo combined to score all 10 points for Brandywine during a nearly three-minute span as the lead swelled to 14.

Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) gave Brandywine its biggest lead of the first half at eight points by canning a jumper at the 11:47 mark, but Greater Allegheny came roaring back to grab a 24-22 lead with a 10-0 surge over the next five minutes.

PSGA led by four at halftime after Christina Floyd sank a pair of layups during the final 48 seconds of the half.

Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) notched 14 points and seven rebounds, while Encarnacion (12 points) and Hinton (11 points) also reached double figures in scoring. Hinton collected seven steals and dished out five assists.

Jilly Gledhill and twin sister Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) both recorded eight points.

The Lions shot over 50 percent from the field (31-61) and tallied assists on 19-of-31 made baskets.

Floyd produced 11 points and 19 boards for Greater Allegheny, which held a 54-40 edge on the glass, but was limited to 34 percent shooting.

Brandywine travels to Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday for a 5:30 PM matchup.
