Brandywine Rallies Past Mont Alto In Five-Set Thriller

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine rallied to win the final two sets, clipping Penn State Mont Alto 3-2 on Tuesday night to remain undefeated in Penn State University Athletic Conference volleyball.

Only the first set, won 25-22 by Mont Alto, did not take extra points to decide. Brandywine claimed set No. 2 30-28, and after Mont Alto won the third frame, 28-26, rebounded to win set No. 4, 32-30, and set No. 5, 18-16.

Brandywine has now won 23 consecutive PSUAC matches, with all but two being decided in straight sets.

Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), who was named national player of the week on Tuesday by the USCAA, led all players with 18 kills. She matched Emily Battista (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) for the team lead with 23 digs.

Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn), named PSUAC Setter of the Week for the second consecutive week on Tuesday, set a career high with 52 assists and added five kills, 11 digs and one block. Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) delivered 15 kills, while Civera added 10.

Kusner also collected eight digs and three blocks and Kelsey Zober (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) registered nine digs. Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) registered eight kills and three blocks.

Brandywine (10-2, 5-0 PSUAC) heads to New Jersey on Saturday for a tri-match at Rutgers-Camden beginning at 11:00 am.
