Albright Outlasts Brandywine 3-0

READING, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine led late during each of the first two sets, but Albright rallied to claim both frames and then finished off the sweep by winning the third set, sending Brandywine to its first volleyball defeat of the season on Tuesday night. Set scores for the match were 25-23, 27-25, 25-21.

The Lions held a five-point edge on two occasions during the first set, including a 20-15 margin, but Albright answered with six of the final seven points in the stanza to claim a 1-0 lead.

The teams traded points during the second set before three consecutive aces by Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) established a 14-8 lead for Brandywine. Albright rallied to tie the score at 16-16 and then grabbed a three-point edge, but the Lions responded by holding off two set points, knotting the score at 25 on Lauren Kelly's (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) kill; however, Albright used a kill and an ace to claim the set and take a 2-0 edge.

Brandywine owned an 8-5 lead in set No. 3, but Albright rattled off nine-straight points to go in front 14-8. The Lions cut the deficit as low as two points at 23-21; however, Albright tallied the final two points to claim the match.

Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led all players with 13 kills, while adding eight digs. Margot Gargus (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) produced six kills and Kelly contributed three.

In addition to leading the team with 10 digs, Civera recorded three aces, while Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) registered two aces along with 19 assists. Gargus also tallied seven digs and Kelly totaled four.

Brandywine (2-1) returns home Friday night when it hosts Delaware Valley at 7:00 pm.
