Munro Nets 1,000th Point In Victory Over Trinity

MEDIA, Pa. -- Highlighted by senior Lauren Munro's (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) 1,000th career point, the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team posted a come-from-behind 70-62 victory over Trinity (D.C.) on Tuesday night during the Lions' home opener.

Munro registered 12 points to up her career total to 1,006, becoming the seventh player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark. She has averaged 12.0 points per outing over her 84-game career. Munro's 1,000th point came on a fast-break layup at the 7:05 mark of the second quarter.

Trinity led Brandywine by as many as 10 points late in the third quarter before the Lions began their comeback.

Brandi James' (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) free throw jumpstarted an 11-4 spurt and her layup just before the third quarter buzzer brought Brandywine within three at 45-42.

Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) tied the score for the first time since early in the first half, burying a three-pointer with 8:58 to go in the game and, after a layup by Blessing Hayes, again knotted the score with a jumper.

After Hayes gave Trinity a one-point edge, Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) canned a triple, pushing Brandywine in front. Gledhill followed with another shot from beyond the arc and Encarnacion added an old-fashioned three-point play, spurring a 9-0 Brandywine run that gave the Lions a seven-point advantage.

Trinity rallied to knot the score at 60-60, but Encarnacion answered with a bucket to put Brandywine in front for good with 3:05 to play. Munro and Encarnacion added baskets down the stretch to ice the game.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as Trinity led 15-10 after 10 minutes, holding the Lions without a point for over five minutes. Gledhill's jumper gave Brandywine a three-point cushion with 2:42 to play in the half, but Trinity reeled off eight of the final 10 points of the half to grab a three-point edge.

Encarnacion led the Lions with 15 points, while Gledhill added 12, along with four rebounds and four steals. In addition to her 1,000th career point, Munro tallied seven boards and five steals. James collected eight points and five boards.

Brandywine shot 35 percent from the field, while Trinity connected on 38 percent of its shots, but struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 10-of-26 attempts.

Brandywine is back on the road Saturday with a trip to Division II Mansfield at 2:00 pm.
