Brandywine Dealt Sixth-Straight Defeat

MEDIA, Pa. -- Isaiah Wilmore (Philadelphia, Pa./Ben Franklin) set a career high with 26 points, but it was not enough at the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was downed by Penn State Mont Alto 84-69 on Saturday afternoon.

Wilmore added 10 points and three steals for the Lions, who shot 36 percent from the field, but connected on just 3-of-21 three-point attempts.

Mont Alto created a 27-14 lead midway through the first half before a 20-4 Brandywine surge brought the Lions in front. Wilmore got the run started with back-to-back three-point plays, while Edward Sanchez (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) added three buckets and Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) contributed a basket and two free throws.

Wilmore canned a jumper with five seconds remaining before the half to give the Lions a three-point edge at the break and netted Brandywine's first five points of the second half, but Mont Alto fought back to tie the score at 43-43 on Sharif Welton's triple with 16:30 to play.

Welton's basket was part of an 11-0 Mont Alto run that gave the visitors a six-point edge. Jerome Evans buried a jumper at the 8:25 mark to push the Mont Alto edge to double figures for the first time in the second half and the PSUMA lead would not dip below eight the rest of the way.

Marcus Turner (Claymont, Del./Chichester) was the second Lion to net double figures with 12 points, while Shafi Mohammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Hawbridge School (N.C.)) pulled down 10 rebounds.

Evans collected 23 points and 13 rebounds for Mont Alto and Shuntan Hickman added 17 points and three steals.

Brandywine (2-12, 1-5 PSUAC) hosts Penn State Wilkes Barre on Monday night at 8:00 pm.
