New York men's soccer team pushes winning streak to three with two wins in as many days

The Berkeley College (NY) men's soccer team picked up a pair of road victories on consecutive days, defeating Webb Institute by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon and downing Davis College in a thriller by a score of 1-0 in overtime on Thursday. With those two wins, the Knights have now won four out of five and three in a row while improving their overall mark on the 2014 campaign to 4-2. Wednesday's game served as Webb Institute's season opener, so they fell to 0-1, and Davis College dipped to 4-2 with Thursday's defeat.

Berkeley and Webb were tied 1-1 in the first half of their contest, but the Knights ran off five consecutive goals to account for their six scores on the day. Berkeley maintained its five-goal advantage in the second half, eventually winning the game by a score of 6-1.

The Knights had to work harder for their victory against Davis College, as neither team was able to score a goal through the first 90 minutes of play. 5:49 into the extra session, however, Berkeley College's Shonoray Ryan blasted a goal past Davis netminder Hugo Lemus to give his team an exciting 1-0 win. Knights Head Coach Stavros Zomopoulous gave his thoughts on his team's recent surge.

"Wednesday we did a terrfic job of building and maintaining a lead, and then to come back less than 24 hours later and play the kind of game we did against Davis, it certainly speaks volumes about our team's character," he said. "We have won three consecutive games now, and the guys are starting to build confidence. Hopefully we can keep it going six days from now against SUNY Maritime."

Berkeley College will now head to SUNY Maritime for a game on Wednesday evening. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
