Running Eagles Down Selma 77-64

MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University (7-11) defeated Selma University 77-64 on Tuesday night.
 
"I think we allowed ourselves to get sucked into an ugly game," Head Coach Anthony Maxwell said, "However, it counts as a win all the same, and I'll take it."
 
Three Running Eagles finished in double digits on the night. Sophomore Lucy Stone paced the squad with 18 points as well as three assists, three steals and a rebound. Sophomore Shikiya Brown put up 15 points with three steals and a rebound. Sophomore Tierra Lindsey logged a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 21 rebounds to go along with two steals.
 
In a game in which Life U only trailed for just over a minute, the first half was extremely tight. In the first quarter, while the Running Eagles held the lead for most of the period, the Lady Bulldogs wouldn't allow them more than a six point lead. Going into the final 10 minutes of the half, Life U lead 16-13. The second quarter saw the home team gain some momentum and finally began to break away at 34-22. They took a 35-25 lead into the half.
While Selma didn't allow the Running Eagles to run away with the lead in the second half, Life U held them in check and never allowed them within striking distance. The Running Eagles built up the lead to 43-30 and led 57-47 going into the final period. They continued to roll in the final 10 minutes and went up by their largest margin of the game at 62-47. They eventually claimed the 77-64 victory, breaking a losing streak of six games.
The Running Eagles will get back to Mid-South Conference play on Thursday, Feb. 1 as they welcome the University of the Cumberlands to the Eagles' Nest.
