Lions Sweep Scranton On Senior Day

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team honored its senior class with a pair of victories over Penn State Scranton on Sunday, winning the opener 16-1 in five innings before finishing off the sweep with a 15-5 triumph in game two on Senior Day.

After falling behind 1-0 in the opener, Brandywine took the lead for good with a three-run bottom of the first. Senior Gabe Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) doubled in Josh Dellipriscoli (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) to tie the score and John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) followed with a two-run single to put the Lions in front.

Brandywine continued to pour it on in the second, scoring six more times. Encarnacion and Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) recorded back-to-back RBI doubles and Anthony Bianchini (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) smashed a two-run home run over the left field fence.

Encarnacion added a two-run base hit in the third and Gorgone delivered a pair of run-scoring hits during the third and fourth.

Gorgone went 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, while Encarnacion registered three hits, four RBI and four runs scored. Osenbach also scored four times.

Senior Brian Pennock (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) pitched the first 1 1/3 innings to earn the win, his third of the season.

Brandywine trailed by three runs in game two, but answered quickly and Osenbach doubled home Dellipriscoli and scored, along with Encarnacion, on an error.

Encarnacion put the Lions in front 4-3 with a RBI base hit and Bianchini followed with a two-run single.

Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) delivered a three-run double, the final of five runs scored in the fourth and Brandywine walked off with the run-rule victory after Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) singled home Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) in the sixth.

Crumlish collected two hits and four runs batted in, while Bianchini added three more RBI and Osenbach and Encarnacion both tallied two hits.

Doug Medrano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) earned the win in relief, allowing just one unearned run in 1.1 innings, while striking out one.
