New Jersey men's soccer team breaks through for eight goals in victory over Vaughn College

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team won for the third time in four games, defeating the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 8-1 Monday evening at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the victory, the Knights improved their 2014 record to 4-6, while the Warriors dipped to 1-3.

An unassisted goal by Carlos Gutierrez in the sixth minute (5:15) gave Berkeley College an early 1-0 advantage. Later - in the 16th minute - Juan Facioline recieved a throw-in pass from Bryan Costa and buried the ball into the net, increasing the Knights' edge to 2-0. Francesco Torino and Bryan Costa added goals at the 27:23 and 31:35 marks respectively, as Berkeley built a comfortable 4-0 lead. Vaughn College was able to get on the board prior to the end of the first session, as the Warriors' Julian Mero would score off of a midfield breakaway at the 41:41 mark. At the half, Berkeley led the contest 4-1.

In the second session, the Knights would add four more goals to account for the 8-1 final score. Facioline notched his second goal of the evening just 41 seconds into the second stanza to push Berkeley's lead to 5-1. Steven Ortiz, Ribhe Huzien, and Ryan Kelley each notched goals in the second half, as well.

Berkeley College netminder Christian Vidreiro played just the opening half in picking up the victory in net, as he stopped three shots and allowed just one goal. Jonathan Pena Ortiz played the second session in net and did not face a shot.

The Knights dominated the game offensively, out-shooting Vaughn College by a count of 38-7. Berkeley also had 16 corner kicks compared to three for the Warriors.

Berkeley will return to action on Thursday afternoon, as the Knights will play host to Sussex at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 2:00pm.
