Lions Top York; Clinch PSUAC Regular-Season Title

YORK, Pennsylvania -- Sophomore Bill Walleekendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester) scored both goals as the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team edged Penn State York 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.

With the victory, the Lions (9-7, 8-0 PSUAC) clinched the league's regular-season crown with one conference match remaining before the PSUAC Tournament. York, which entered the game tied atop the standings with Brandywine, suffered its first conference loss, falling to 7-1.

The reigning PSUAC Player of the Week, Walleekendeh remained red hot with two more goals on Thursday, giving him 10 during the team's last three games. He is tied for the league lead with 17 goals this fall.

Walleekendeh put Brandywine on the board 60 seconds before halftime when he headed in a thrown in from freshman Patrick Lutes (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner). He gave the Lions a 2-0 cushion when he tapped in a shot after the ball was mishandled by York net minder Fahkry Jelani.

Fabian Vilca sliced Brandywine's lead in half during the 70th minute, but the Brandywine defense held York without a shot the rest of the way to secure the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Nick Previti (Aldan, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) made one save to gain his sixth win of the season for the Lions.

Brandywine returns home on Sunday when it faces the University of Valley Forge on Senior Day at 2:00 pm. The Lions will honor their five-man senior class prior to the match.
