Beaver falls to Division I Longwood University
Lions lose 106-74.
Farmville, VA -- Lions fall to Division I Longwood University.
In their first game in over a week, Beaver traveled to Farmville, Virginia to face the Longwood University Lancers. In the first half Beaver took an early two point lead (4-2) on a Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) layup, but that was the last time they would hold the lead. Despite the mismatch in size, Beaver was able to keep themselves in the game for the majority first half. At the 14:58 mark, Longwood took a ten point lead, but Beaver would narrow that gap to just four (16-12) in the next three minutes. The Lions played with the Lancers for most of the half, keeping the score within 13 points until the last minutes of the half. Beaver found themselves down 51-34 at the half.
In the second half the high powered offense of the Lancers was too much for the Lions to overcome as they fell by a final score of 106-74.
Leading the scoring for the Lions was junior, Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) who put up 21 points, 2 assists and 3 steals. Following him was Smith with 17 while two other players, Christian James (Frederick, MD / Frederick) and Christian Best (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Ford) also scored in the double digits with 15 and 12 respectively.
The Lions will now head into the holiday break with an overall record of 3-9 and a conference record of 3-2. They will return to action on January 14th when they travel to Grove City College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
