2010 USCAA Soccer National Champions

The University of Maine at Fort Kent swept the USCAA 2010 Soccer National Championships in Burlington, Vermont. The Men’s team defeated Briarcliffe College 2-0.  The Women followed suit defeating Florida College 4-0 to complete the sweep.  Both teams were ranked #1 heading into the tournament.

As the sun came out from behind the clouds at South Burlington High School in Vermont on Sunday, November 7, 2010 the four teams took to the field for the Championship matches.  Conditions were perfect for the 2010 USCAA National Championship games after a weekend of action in the brisk Vermont climate.

Men’s Soccer National Championship Game – Sunday, November 7, 2010

In the Men’s Soccer National Championship game, top seeded Maine at Fort Kent defeated #3 Briarcliffe College 2-0 in the early game.  Tournament MVP, Andre Anderson from Maine at Fort Kent, helped his team jump out to a 1-0 lead two minutes into the match.  Jermaine West, who had a goal and an assist in the Semi-Final victory over Penn College, supplied the insurance goal in the 75th minute.  Maine at Fort Kent, which finished the season undefeated, did not allow a goal during the entirety of the tournament en route to taking home the Championship trophy. 

Andre Anderson (University of Maine at Fort Kent) was named the Men’s Soccer All-Tournament MVP.

Women’s Soccer National Championship Game – Sunday, November 7, 2010

In the Women’s Soccer National Championship game the University of Maine at Fort Kent defeated #3 Florida College 4-1 in the late game.  UMFK broke open a 1-0 halftime lead with early goals to begin the second half.  Whitney Sinclair, whose goal in the 53rd minute opened up the close matchup, was her 100th career goal.  She added a second goal in the 65th minute to give Maine at Fort Kent the 4-0 advantage.  Theresa Biggs also added two goals on the day, including a goal in the 22nd minute which gave UMFK the halftime lead.  Florida College would put one on the board in the 75th minute when Freshman Monica Hall broke past the defenders and found the back of the net.

Whitney Sinclair (University of Maine at Fort Kent) was named the Women’s Soccer All-Tournament MVP.
