Dine men and SVU women win 2007 USCAA Cross Country Titles

BUENA VISTA, Va. (Nov. 2, 2007) - SVU took home the women's title while Dine won the men's championship at the USCAA National Cross Country Championship at Glen Maury Park on Friday.

The Knights have now won the last seven championship while Dine has won the last three on the men's side. Dine had a team score of 25 and Warren Wilson (70 points) took second on the men's side and was followed by Lyndon State (85), SVU (102), Florida (103), Columbia Union (156), New Hampshire Tech (159) and Williamson Trade (175).  

The SVU women had a team score of 35 and Dine was second with a score of 65 and was followed by Warren Wilson (67), Columbia Union (81) and New Hampshire Tech (107). Lyndon State and Vermont Tech also had individuals participate.  

Lyndsay Calkins and Jacob Kirwa repeated as the individual champions in the men's and women's races, respectively. Calkins finished the 6k race with a time of 23:57.95 while Kirwa finished the 8k race in 24:45.01. Kirwa won by almost four minutes and Calkins won by 1:20.  

Calkins headlined the women's All-American team and was followed by Heather Searles of NHTI, Chelsea Gay of Warren Wilson, Midge Sullivan, Bridget Gonzalez and Shaina White of SVU, and Vanessa Jones of Columbia Union.  

Kirwa was joined by three other Dine runners on the All-American team with Tony Perez in second and James Nduati and Cody Tipler in sixth and seventh. Cameron Aly and Jackson Wiley of Florida took third and fourth and Lyndon State's Jeremiah Powel took fifth to earn All-America nods.
