IN BRIEF: The Penn State Brandywine Lady Lions were able to get an early lead on Penn College, scoring in each of their first three at bats.  Penn College would rally in the fourth and fifth innings to bring the game within two runs, but Brandywine's pitching and defense were able to hold off the late surge as Brandywine went on to win, 5-3.

HOW THEY SCORED: Penn State Brandywine opened up the scoring in the top of the 1st inning as Arianna Segich singled, stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch after advancing to third on a Julie Allman sacrifice. 

Brandywine expanded their lead to 3-0 in the second inning when Katy Steffen and Julie Foeldes scored on a Julie Allman single to right field after Foeldes reached on an error and Steffen reached on a fielder's choice.

In the third inning, Brandywine added another pair of runs on an RBI double from Foeldes, scoring Steph Harvey who reached on a fielder's choice.  Their second run came off of a Steffen single to left center, scoring Foeldes. 

Penn College got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor Brooks doubled, scoring Taylor Krow and Samantha Hill who both walked in their at bats. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Penn College cut their deficit to two runs as Elizabeth Asher scored on a fielder's choice in Samantha Hill's at bat.  Asher reached on an error by the short stop and advanced to second on a throwing error.

The final two innings remained scoreless as the defense and pitching of Brandywine were enough to hold off Penn College for the 1st round win.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: In the first inning, Penn State Brandywine scored 5 runs on 9 hits while holding Penn College scoreless through the first three innings of play.  They were led by Katie DeStefano who went 3 for 3 and Julie Allman who went 2 for 3 with a team leading 2 RBI's.  Eight of the nine Brandywine batters contributed at least one hit in the game. 

Penn College was led by Taylor Brooks who went 1 for 4 with two RBI's and Taylor Krow who went 1 for 2.  The defense for Penn College gave up just one error in the game.

NEXT UP: Penn State Brandywine advances in the winners bracket to face #2 Carlow University tonight at 6:00 pm.  Penn College is still alive in the tournament but moves to the loser's bracket.  They will face the loser of the #3 NHTI vs #6 Penn State Hazleton game to be played this afternoon at 4:00 pm.
