The Apprentice School captured the team championship at the 2013 USCAA-PSUAC National Wrestling Invitational on Saturday with 176 team points followed closely by PSU DuBois with 168. Coach Bruce Shumaker's team put seven wrestlers in the finals with four earning titles for Apprentice. Seniors Ty Ford (125 lbs), Kyle Spruill (149 lbs.) and Kevin Gray (235 lbs.) were joined by sophomore Ian Jones (285 lbs.) as champions.
Penn State DuBois came in second place in the tournament and won the PSUAC Conference title among the seven PSUAC schools competing in the meet. They matched the Builders with seven finalists and four champions topped by the Terwilliger brothers. Ryan (174 lbs.) defeated previously undefeated Logan Gresock of Penn College 11-8 in the finals. His brother Stephen (184 lbs. ) defeated Apprentice School's Josh Rodriguez 8-5 in the semis and scored a 17-2 tech fall over Genkie Stoutamire of Penn State Greater Allegheny in the finals. Jake Himes (165 lbs.) and Cliff Hill (197 lbs.) also won titles for Penn State DuBois.
Penn College took third with two champions in Ryan Hart (133 lbs.) and Tyler Myers (157 lbs.). Penn State Greater Allegheny finished fourth in the meet as they had six wrestlers finish in the top six. Eric Rayman won the title for Greater Allegheny at 141 pounds defeating Tyler Warner of Penn State Mont Alto 7-4 in the finals.
