CHARLESTON, WV – Number one seed, The University of Maine at Fort Kent defeated number two seeded Daemen College in overtime, 3-2, to capture the 2013 USCAA Women's Soccer National Championship. In a rematch of the 2012 USCAA Women's Soccer final, the Lady Bengals were able to come from behind to force overtime and win in the first overtime period.
University of Maine at Fort Kent started the match strongly and put immediate pressure onto Daemen College's defense in the game's first ten minutes. With less than ten minutes remaining in the first half, the Lady Bengals were able to get on the board first when USCAA First-Team All-American, Katherine Ferland, struck the ball to the low left side of the goal to beat the Daemen keeper. However, the Lady Wildcats responded with a goal by All-American, Samantha Engel, with four minute left in the first half.
After halftime, the matchup would continue to go back and forth. With 17 minutes left in the match, Daemen College took a 2-1 lead when Leah May was able to get a foot on a ball that was crossed low through the box by Engel. Fort Kent would respond with increased pressure on Daemen until they were finally able to tie the game with a goal by Marie-Laurence Montagne, with four minutes left in regulation that sent the game into overtime.
Seven minutes into the first overtime period, Ariane Laberge-Pelletier would score the game winning goal off of a shot that bounced off the keeper's hand and into the middle of the box securing the Lady Bengals third USCAA Women's Soccer National Championship in the last four years.
