Important USCAA Announcements | Spring Championships Updates

Dear Member Institutions:

Following the most recent Board of Directors meeting, the USCAA National Office has the following updates concerning the remaining Spring Championships/Invitationals.

USCAA Small College World Series (Baseball & Softball National Championships)
The USCAA National Office and Board of Directors are moving forward with the planning of the Small College World Series as a national championship.  In addition to the return to play guidelines, there are several additional stipulations that need to be met with the City of Dubois.  Following the national office’s meeting with the event host, we will provide those stipulations to the membership.

Full tournament information packets will be available at www.theuscaa.com the week of April 5th.

USCAA Golf National Championship
After reviewing survey results from USCAA member institutions, the Board of Directors determined to make the rescheduled golf event an invitational in lieu of a national championship.  We will continue with a similar format and awards platforms.

The event dates of May 9-11, 2021 and location of State College, Pennsylvania will remain the same.  The following adjustments will be made to comply with COVID protocols of the course:
  1. Tee times will be utilized rather than a shotgun start.  There will be a minimum of 10 minutes between each grouping.
  2. There will be no skills competition nor awards ceremony/banquet.
  3. The tournament field size will be limited to 104 golfers (26 foursomes).
  4. Warm-up/Range time prior to opening rounds will be pre-scheduled.  Teams will not be permitted to arrive at the course until one (1) hour prior to their tee time.
  5. All practice rounds/range time/etc. MUST be scheduled with the course prior to arrival on site.  No walk-up service will be permitted.
  6. Masks MUST be worn at all times while on site except when actively golfing.  This includes while on course when exchanging scorecards and traveling between holes.
Full tournament information packets will be available at www.theuscaa.com the week of April 5th.

USCAA Soccer National Invitational
It has been determined that hosting the event is NOT feasible following the most recent survey to membership which showed only six (6) member institutions who would qualify based on regular season schedules.  It was the recommendation of the National Office to the Board of Directors to cancel the event siting the following concerns:
  1. The viability of the event
  2. Staffing concerns surrounding the overlap with the Small College World Series.
In addition to the tournament information packets, an official document outlining the USCAA COVID protocols will be available to all members the week of April 5th.  The protocols outlined in this document (which will be similar to those included in the previous survey to campus administrators) MUST be met in order to attend and continue to participate in all USCAA sanctioned events.  It was developed with the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators and tournament staff (host site and national office staff) in mind.  There will also be an updated Code of Conduct that all participating institutions will need to complete prior to competition.

While we acknowledge that this announcement is not as positive as we had hoped, we continue to work to provide positive experiences for our student-athletes while also ensuring their health and well-being.  As always, we appreciate your support as we continue to navigate these challenging times.  Just like you, we are anxious to get back on the court and field but strive to do so in the most responsible and professional way possible.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Executive Director, Matthew Simms at matthew.simms@theuscaa.com or Director of Championships & Development, BJ Bertges at bj.bertges@theuscaa.com.
