UC Clermont Captures the 2023 Women's D2 Soccer National Championship
PITTSBUGH, Pa. – Tournament MVP Kerianne White scored off a feed from Alexis Taylor in the 78th minute and the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars made it stand as they defeated SUNY-ESF 1-0 for the 2023 USCAA Women’s Division II Soccer National Championship on Monday evening.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Cougars outshoot SUNY-ESF 7-3, White took a pass from Taylor and slotted it into the back of the net at 77:47 for the 1-0 advantage. The goal for White was one of only two shots on goal for the Cougars as SUNY-ESF forced chances to go wide of the net for most of the night.
Goalkeeper Natalie Wilson and a stout UC-Clermont defense made that one tally stand as she made seven saves in the game, with six coming in the second half as SUNY-ESF held a 10-3 advantage in shots in the final 45 minutes.
This was the third trip in five years to the finals for UC-Clermont and the second women’s soccer championship for the school.
