Lions Emerge Victorious from First PSUAC Contest

Lemont Furnace, PA- New Kensington got its first conference action of the season yesterday as they traveled to Lemont Furnace, PA to take on Penn State Fayette in the PSUAC opener for both squads.

After a fairly slow start to the night for both teams, the Lions were able to finish the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 30-25 lead going into the break. New Kensington never looked back from there, as they used a scorching hot second half, 70% from the field, to close out Fayette by a final score of 82-71.

Freshman guard Ta'Rasi Means (Plum, PA)  led all scorers on the night with 23 points, adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists to the stat sheet. Fellow guard Shyheim Flanagan (Breaux Bridge, LA) led all bench scoring with 12 points on 5-8 (62%) shooting from the field.

The Lions were able to use their size to their advantage all night, outscoring PSU Fayette 54-30 in the paint. Sophomore Center Jovan Kojic (Subotica, Serbia) had an impressive game in the paint, posting 16 points and 9 boards, while fellow big man Benjamin Cunningham (Woodbridge, VA) shined as well with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

 The Lions will look to make it three straight wins in a row as they travel to York, PA this Friday, November 18th to take on Penn State York in another PSUAC contest.
