Moose fall in OT to Mustangs

Augusta, ME - Opening night at the Augusta Civic Center is always a big deal and the Men's game did not disappoint. A game that has it's fair share of offensive outbursts and runs saw the Moose head to the locker room at half time holding a two point lead; then came out for the second half firing going on a quick 10-2 run in the first 4 minutes and 30 seconds. The Moose built a lead to 12 points with 14 minutes remaining in the quarter but the Mustangs came charging back and went on a 18-0 run over a 5 minute and 18 second stretch that put them back ontop by 6 points with 9:10 remaining in the game. With 4:10 remaining in the game Trevor Beals would hit two foul shots to tie the game at 69-69 and the final four minutes would be a back and forth affair that saw Mustang guard, Wyatt Hathaway hit a jumper to tie the game at 79-79 to send it to overtime. Overtime saw the Mustangs jump out on 11-3 run in the first 3 minutes but with 24 seconds remaining Elijah Smith hit a 3-pt jumper to pull the Moose within 3 points; that would be as close as they would get as the Mustangs would walk away with a 97-91 victory.

Pacing the Moose was Elijah Smith who started the game by scoring 14 of UMA's first 21 points and finished with a team high 29 points, 6 rebounds nd 3 steals.
