Brandywine Claims First Place In PSUAC On Senior Day

MEDIA, Pa. -- In a battle of two unbeaten teams, Penn State Brandywine knocked off Penn State New Kensington 4-0 to clinch the Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer regular-season title during the Lions' Senior Day on Saturday.

Brandywine netted two goals in each half to extend its conference unbeaten streak to 73 consecutive matches.

After Christian Zavala (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) was tripped up in the box, Alexis Cordova Bernal (Oxford, Pa./Avon Grove) ripped a penalty kick past New Kensington goalkeeper Andrew Haus for a 1-0 Brandywine lead at the 21:30 mark.

The Lions doubled their margin to 2-0 when Zavala linked up with Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn), who tallied his team-high 24th goal of the season just over four minutes later.

Zack Bardwell (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) took a feed from Manful and deposited the Lions' third goal of the game during the 51st minute. Bardwell added an assist on Jayden Barragan's (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) goal that capped the scoring at the 80:39 mark.

Brandywine outshot New Kensington 20-6 and received four saves from goalkeeper Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson). DeBooth made three of his stops during the first half and kept a clean sheet for the seventh time this season, while earning his 10th victory.

Brandywine (15-0-2, 8-0 PSUAC) closes out conference play Monday at home against Penn State Hazleton at 3:00 PM.
