SMCC Collects A Pair Of Victories In HVIAC/YSCC Challenge

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Seawolves (5-1) hosted the men's side of the HVIAC/YSCC Challenge at The HUB, defeating the Mighty Oaks from SUNY- ESF on Saturday (Nov. 12) evening and cruising past the Huskies from Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) on Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon.

The weekend action began as SMCC raced out to an 18-point halftime lead, 45-27, over SUNY-ESF on Saturday. The Mighty Oaks outscored the Seawolves 37-33 in the second half, but SMCC's defense managed stops in crunch time to secure the win. Sophomore captain Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) led the way for SMCC with 14 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Senior captain DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) also notched 14 points, adding four rebounds and two blocks. Junior Anthony Lobor (Portland, Maine), sophomore Bode Meader (Gorham, Maine) and first-year Cayman Warburton (Worcester, Mass.) each chipped in 12 points, with Lobor corralling eight rebounds as the Seawolves won, 78-64. SUNY-ESF's Reid Patchett led all scorers with 21 points.

The Seawolves were pitted against Word of Life on Sunday afternoon and coasted to an 85-50 result as four players reached double-figures in scoring, led by Cromwell's 12 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) scored 12 points on 5-7 shooting from the field while Pyzynski tallied 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Luke Gabloff (North Yarmouth, Maine) put up a career-high 10 points to go with five rebounds. SMCC's defense held the Huskies to 29.3 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent from long-range. Luke Augusta logged a game-high 19 points for Word of Life.
