Brandywine Bests Scranton; Gallo Wins 100th Game

ASTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine Head Baseball Coach Vinny Gallo won the 100th game of his career during the Lions' doubleheader sweep of Penn State Scranton on Thursday. Gallo's milestone victory came following a 5-2, game one triumph and Brandywine eased through the nightcap, winning 16-2.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 5, Penn State Scranton 2

Now in his seventh year as head coach, Gallo became the second coach in program history to earn 100 wins while leading the Lions during game one.

Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) led the Lions' offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) and Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) both tallied two hits.

Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) went the distance on the mound, allowing just two runs (one earned) on two hits, while striking out two.

DeGirolamo's run-scoring single tied the score at 1-1 in the first and Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) later scored following a Scranton error to give the Lions a 2-1 edge.

Baughman notched an RBI single and came around to score on Abegg's double in the second to up the margin to 4-1. Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) walked and later scored via Toby Skeans' (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) ground out to provide the game's final run in the fifth.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 16, Penn State Scranton 2

Brandywine plated nine runs during the first inning and never looked back during a 14-run victory in game two.

Abegg, DeGirolamo and Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) all recorded run-scoring singles, while Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) doubled in two runs and Kyle Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades) tripled in a run to highlight the big opening frame for the Lions.

Sndyer added another RBI double in the second before the Lions tacked on three more runs during both the third and fourth innings.

Snyder was one of four Lions with two hits, while also driving in three runs and scoring twice. Wright, DeGirolamo and Webb also collected two hits and scored two runs. Max Tavarez (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge), Oechsle and Abegg each drove in a pair.

Jaylen Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Telecommunications) pitched all five innings to earn the victory on the mound. He recorded seven strikeouts, while allowing two runs on three hits.

Brandywine (10-7, 2-0 PSUAC) and Scranton meet again Friday night at Maple Zone beginning at 5:00 PM.
