Ruiz, Chavez Lead Men's Soccer Season-Opening 7-1 Victory of Central Penn

Dix Hills, N.Y. - A hat trick from Hector Ruiz and a pair of goals from Angel Chavez spearheaded the attack for the Five Towns College men's soccer team Saturday afternoon in a season-opening 7-1 win over visiting Central Penn.

In Ruiz's debut, the forward had five shots on goal and also added two assists for an eight-point day.  Chavez, the reigning HVIAC Player of the Year, picked up from where he left off, adding a pair of assists while increasing his career total to 23 goals with the Sound.

Five Towns College (1-0) dominated possession throughout the match and Ruiz took a Kevin Cuatlacuatl feed at 9:04 to get the hosts on the board first.

Fourteen minutes later, Ruiz found himself on the distribution side assisting on William Rivera's first goal of the season at 23:26 to make it a 2-0 game and the Sound never looked back.  Ruiz made it 3-0 when he added his second of the game at 31:48 of the first half.

The Sound held a 23-3 shots advantage and added four goals in the second half:

Central Penn (0-1) got on the board at 52:20 when Gavin Lamborn's free-kick attempt was deflected off the Five Towns College wall, sending the ball out of Steven Paguada's reach.  Paguada finished the match with two saves in 72 minutes of work.  He improved his career total to 13-1 goal.

Head Coach Jason Fiscina and his squad are back in action on Thursday (Sept. 1), when they travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
