Brandywine Upends Albright 4-1

MEDIA, Pa. -- Albright scored first, but Penn State Brandywine answered with the next four to earn a 4-1 non-conference men's soccer victory on Thursday afternoon.

Albright took advantage of a Brandywine defender who had fallen down and scored the match's opening goal just 1:55 into the game.

However, Brandywine needed less than seven minutes to find the equalizer. Lex Smith (Centreville, Va./ASU Preparatory Academy) caught the Albright goalkeeper out of position and found the back of the net for his third goal of the year.

Brandywine went on top for good during the 15th minute when Zack Bardwell's (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) shot from near the end line snuck into the net.

The Lions poured it on Albright, adding a third first-half goal when Robbie Warren (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) tapped in Khafren Smith's (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) crossing pass, and took a two-goal lead into the half.

Brandywine's defense limited Albright to just one second half shot, while Warren benefited from Chris Manful's (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) crossing feed to notch his second score of the match at the 71:32 mark.

Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) played all 90 minutes in net, earning his third victory of the season. DeBooth stopped two of the three shots he faced.

Brandywine held Albright to just four shot attempts, while producing 16 shots of its own.

The Lions (4-0-2, 1-0 PSUAC) continue non-conference play Sunday against Washington Adventist at 12:00 PM.
