Two Second-Half Goals Send Brandywine To Tournament Championship Match

MEDIA, Pa. -- Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) scored the go-ahead goal late in the second half and assisted on an insurance goal as the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team advanced to the championship match of its home tournament with a 2-0 victory over Carlow on Saturday.

Despite outshooting Carlow 10-1 during the opening 45 minutes, the teams entered halftime even at 0-0.

Manful got the match's first goal at the 57:58 mark as he found a loose ball in front of the cage and deposited his second goal of the year for a 1-0 Brandywine lead.

Less than five minutes later, Manful sprung Zack Bardwell (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) on a break and Bardwell potted his first career goal, doubling the Lions' lead to 2-0.

Elijah DeBooth (Reading, Pa./Wilson) kept a clean sheet, making four stops, including a diving save on a Carlow break during the 71st minute. DeBooth earned his second victory of the season.

Brandywine (2-0) held a 22-5 edge in shots and recorded eight of the match's nine corner kicks.

Brandywine will play the winner of Salem-Bryant & Stratton in Sunday's championship match at 2:00 PM.
