Berkeley's uses clutch goal by Marcos Hidalgo, suffocating defense to shut down Delaware Valley, 1-0 at Robert A. Lipinski Field

The Berkeley College New Jersey men's soccer team continued its impressive start to the 2019 season, defeating the Aggies of Delaware Valley by a score of 1-0 Saturday at Robert A. Lipinski Field in Doylestown, PA. With the triumph, the Knights are now unbeaten in five, boasting a record of 4-0-1. Delaware Valley's undefeated streak to start the year came to an end, with the Aggies slipping to 3-1-1.

The Knights, who are pushing to qualify for the USCAA's for the first time since 2016, won with a very similar formula: A timely goal, tremendous defense, and experienced goaltending. In this one, Berkeley College took advantage of an opportunity in the 40th minute, as veteran Marcos Hidalgo buried a penalty kick, slashing the ball into the lower left corner of the net, past Aggies netminder Shay McAnee, to give his team a 1-0 edge.

Berkeley held Delaware Valley to no shots in the opening 45 minutes of action, and entered halftime with the one goal advantage.

In the waning moments, the Knights still held a slim 1-0 lead, and controversy ensued as an Aggie player was dragged down inside the box, but the officials ruled that the infraction occurred after time had expired, denying Delaware Valley a potential opportunity at tying the match.

Berkeley's defense was phenomenal in this one, allowing just one shot on goal, which was stopped by senior Robert Parker. Parker earned his second shutout of the season, and lowered his G.A.A. to an incredible 0.97 for the season.

The Knights will look to make it six consecutive matches without a loss for the season on Tuesday evening, as Berkeley will travel to Albright College. Start-time at Gene L. Shirk Stadium is scheduled for 7:00pm. Those interested in following live stats for the contest can do so by clicking the link below:
