Men's Basketball Wins Hard Fought Overtime Battle Against Penn State New Kensington

NEW KENSIGNTON, Pa – Penn State Schuylkill men's basketball team won a hard-fought battle against PSUAC opponent Penn State New Kensington this past Saturday. The game would be decided in overtime, with Schuylkill getting the edge over New Kensington 59-56.

With New Kensington leading 44-37 with 7:34 remaining in regulation after a 6-0 run, Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Cantonsville High School) would knock down a jump shot, closing the gap to five. Corchado Kente (Philadelphia, PA / Tacony Academy Charter High School) would capitalize on a layup on Schuylkill's next offensive possession after a made 3-point basket by New Kensington. Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School) would find Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy) on a 3-point make to bring the deficit to three.

New Kensington ended a nearly four-minute field goal drought by both teams on a made jump shot with 2:48 remaining in the contest, giving New Kensington a 51-44 advantage over Schuylkill. Bryce Hensley (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain High School) would tie the game at 51-51, capping off a 7-0 Schuylkill run to end regulation and force overtime.

The overtime period began with both teams struggling to find the net. New Kensington would score with 3:35 remaining to make the score 53-51. Schuylkill would find success at the free throw line, going 6-10 to close the game out. New Kensington would connect on a 3-point field goal as time expired.

Dixon came up huge for Schuylkill with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Hensley added 10 points and 3 rebounds. Andrew Sepp (Bogota, NJ / Saint Mary High School) contributed with 8 points and 3 rebounds.
