BCCC Takes Down New Kensington in Volleyball

BUTLER, Pa. – In a nonconference volleyball matchup between Penn State New Kensington and Butler County Community College, New Kensington fell in straight sets to the home team.

New Kensington began getting a feel for the game during the first set but fell behind, eventually losing 25-13. Working together for the first time on the court, the second set showed improvement and the Lions ended up pushing their score to 19, but BCCC took the win. Once again, BCCC was victorious in the last set, 25-14, leaving the Lions with their first loss.

For New Kensington, outside hitter Kaylea Flick (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) took charge of offense and led in kills, eight. Outside hitter Janet Surma (Lower Burrell, Pa./ Burrell) led the defense, and managed to get 14 digs up to the setter. Libero Bethany Baney (Apollo, Pa./ Kiski Area) also stood strong in the back row, pushing up 11 digs.

Setters Lindsey Hessom (Leechburg, Pa./ Kiski Area) and Kierra Rose (Uniontown, Pa./ Uniontown) put up seven and six assists, respectively.

New Kensington will be playing at Westmoreland County Community College on Sat., September 7 for their second nonconference game of the season. Game time is 12 p.m.
