Brandywine Drops Season Finale In Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team saw its season come to a close Sunday afternoon in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament as the fifth-seeded Lions dropped a 4-0 match to No. 4 Southern Maine CC.

Making her first start of the year, freshman goalkeeper Demareste Dorvilma (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) stopped nine shots, including four during the first half to keep the game scoreless.

Dorvilma blocked five more shots during the final 45 minutes, but the Seawolves finally broke through, scoring the 49th minute. SMCC added three insurance tallies during the final 20 minutes.

Brandywine's top scoring chance came on a free kick by Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) midway through the first half that rang off the cross bar and the resulting rebound was pushed wide. Weir produced three of Brandywine's five shots overall.

Sunday's match marked the finale for Brandywine's five seniors, who captured four-straight conference championships and made four trips to Virginia Beach for the USCAA Tournament, including a national title appearance in 2018. The senior class was unbeaten against PSUAC opponents, winning all 35 matches since the beginning of the 2016 season.
