New Kensington, PA- The Lions played host to PSU Lehigh Valley in a PSUAC semi-final contest yesterday at the athletic field. Both teams scored a goal apiece in regular time, but Lehigh Valley scored two goals in extra time to drop our Lions, 3-1.

New Kensington fell behind 1-0 in the first minute of the match as Lehigh Valley got the scoring going. The Lions tightened things up after the rough start and tied the game when Sophomore Jordan Cooper (Fairfax, VA), who recently was named Co-Player of the Year capitalized on a penalty kick in the 30th minute

The teams remained knotted up until Lehigh Valley scored the go-ahead goal in the first four minutes of extra time. The Lions continued to fight but could not get another goal on the board.

Though the Lions had several quality chances throughout the afternoon, they were outshot 19-9 for the game. Jordan Cooper led New Kensington with five shot attempts, while sophomore Jacob Guerrini (Lower Burrell, PA), freshmen Ethan Hutcherson (Fairfax, VA), frehsmen Michael Chaloupka (Lubbock, Tx), and freshmen Nima Bahrami (Knoxville, TN) all had a shot apiece.

The loss brings the Lions magical season to an unfortunate end. The soccer program will continue to build and retool this offseason, with aspirations of winning a PSUAC Championship in 2023!!
