Mustangs take care of Lynx

Auburn, ME - CM men's soccer welcomed the NHTI Lynx to Auburn for a conference game.

The Mustangs started slowly inviting pressure on their defense from set pieces, free kicks, corners and throw ins.

Within 5 minutes the Mustangs found themselves trailing to the Lynx off of a freekick from the left of the field. Aiden Phelps played a deep cross into the box that the Mustangs failed to deal with. Albert Musimba got the last touch on the ball as it rolled across the line of the open CM goal.

However, CM started to find their rhythm and with that creates pressure and opportunities on the Lynx goal. With 9:42 gone Sasha Bruno picked up the ball in midfield of a rebounding goal kick. Bruno played a wonderful through ball with the outside of his foot splitting the NHTI back line for Ivan Domingues to run onto. Domingues who still had a lot to do, rounded the goal keeper on the dribble and passed the ball into the empty net, to bring parity back to the game at 1 - 1

At the 20:23 mark, the Mustangs built from their defensive third as Luboto found the open Sasha Bruno in midfield. Bruno turned and played another defense splitting pass for Ivan Domingues to run onto. This time Domingues took a low shot side footing the ball to the left of the NHTI keeper, bringing the score to 2 - 1.

On 30:35 CM scored a wonderful team goal. Quick one touch interplay between Ekal, Farrah, Daud, Abdifitah left the Lynx midfield chasing shadows. Abdiftah once more played a pass from deep to Sasah Bruno. Bruno rounded the keeper to roll the ball left footed into the empty net, making the score 3 - 1.

With less than 30 seconds left in the half Ibrahim Dubai won a ball in the defensive 3rd playing the ball to the feet of Abdifitah Yusuff who once again turned and played a defense splitting pass from deep for Romano Bassa to run onto. Bassa calmly finishes past the outrushing keeper to score his 4th goal of the season, and give the Mustangs the 4-1 lead entering the half.

That would conclude the scoring for the entirety of the game. With the greater chances coming the way of the Mustangs. Steven Swiderski would finish with 6 saves for the Lynx, with Nyagasaza recording 4 saves, and Cloutier 4 saves for the Mustangs.

With the win CM moves to 3-0-2 for the season, 1-0-1 in conference play. NHTI falls to 2-4 for the season, 1-2 in conference play.

Next up for CM men's soccer is Paul Smith's college this Saturday for a conference game in Auburn, ME.
