Women's Soccer back on track with win over Unity

Unity, ME - After two days off from a long weekend road trip, the Mustangs got back on track with a win on the road at Unity, their first time ever winning there. Using a three-back defensive alignment, Central Maine loaded up the front and attacked right from the start, controlling the play, and spending a lot of time in their attacking third of the field.

About fifteen minutes into the first half, Samantha Belardo (Russell, MA) would finally get the Mustangs on the scoreboard from a pass by Leya Harvey (Poland, ME) to get her first of four goals on the day.  At the end of the first half, it would be Belardo again on a buzzer-beater from a pass by Tabie Tlumac (Readfield, ME) to go into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw a continued Central Maine attack, and a scramble in front of the Unity goal led to a pass by Lauren Clough (Mount Vernon, ME) to Belardo to give her the hat trick and the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. The Mustangs defense led by Jade Sturtevant (Litchfield, ME), Stephanie Jones (Westport Island, ME) and Skyler Henry (Waterford, CT) continued to shut down the Rams limiting them to just a few shots in the later part of the game.

Belardo would earn her fourth goal of the game, again off a pass by Harvey to seal the game at 4-0. Ali Sult (Lisbon, ME) made 3 saves off 3 shots on goal, all in the second half by the Rams to earn the win for the Mustangs.

Central Maine continues their non-conference schedule with a home game on Saturday October 12 at 1pm against the Knights of Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).
