SMCC Slips To Rival CMCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Seawolves (4-2) pitching staff allowed just seven hits but the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (1-1) took advantage of some untimely errors in the later innings to come out on top.

CMCC got out to a 3-0 lead by the fourth inning before first-year Luke Wearne (Ellington, Conn.) responded with a two-run single to bring SMCC within a run. Sophomores Gabriel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Joseph Townsend (Scarborough, Maine) each went 1-4 at the plate, with Townsend scoring on Wearne's single. Sophomore Sam Keblinsky (Mount Desert Island, Maine) went 2-2 with two walks.

First-year Matt Eugley (Westbrook, Maine) started the game for the Seawolves, allowing four runs on five hits in five innings pitched, striking out a pair. Sophomore Kalin Marum (New South Wales, Australia) gave up a hit in one and ⅓ innings of relief and first-year Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) allowed a run on one hit across the final two and ⅔ innings.

Coach's Thoughts: "All in all, a good outing for us. A couple of plays didn't go our way and CMCC was able to tack on a couple late runs that put us further behind. We'll be hard at work to avoid those miscues to put ourselves in the best position to win ball games moving forward." – Head Coach Nic Lops
