AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak defeating the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 2-0 in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) road tilt on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

First-year Samantha Weir (Chichester, N.H.) netted her first collegiate goal connecting with her head on a bouncing ball delivered across the box from sophomore winger Katelin Bennett (Freedom, Maine) in the seventh minute to lift the away team 1-0.

First-year forward Avery Bleakley (Exeter, N.H.) doubled the SeaWolf score, creating off the dribble and finishing at the 80:47 mark with her left foot. SMCC dominated possession and outshot the Mustangs 25-2, forcing the CMCC keeper Skyler Henry into 17 saves.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ethan Wells commented, "Central Maine offers a special environment under the lights—a setting you get up for as a student-athlete. Defensively we held the shutout to improve on our 0.32 GAA, something we as a coaching staff are very proud of. Offensively, we created plenty of opportunities but need to do a better job of capitalizing with a goal. A big test awaits this weekend."

SMCC climbs to 5-0-1 overall, standing atop the conference table at 3-0-1. The Mustangs slip to .500 overall (3-3) and 2-2 in YSCC play.

The SeaWolves prepare for a two-game weekend slate on the road at the Community College of Rhode Island (NJCAA) on Saturday, Sept. 28 and at home vs. USCAA D1 force Bryant and Stratton- Syracuse on Sunday. LIVE STATS.
