Johnson & Wales Charlotte Claims Men's Division II National Championship
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Wildcats capture their first ever Men's Soccer National Title as they take down Berkeley College 4-2.
Johnson & Wales clearly came into the week ready to play as they opened the scoring off the toe of Josiah Davis who netted the opening goal at 14:28, assisted by Esparza-Diaz who came into the night with an assist in this weeks tournament. Just two and a half minutes later, Davis expanded the Wildcat lead to 2-0 this time on the assist from Lucas Lesh who came into tonights contest with 3 goals and 2 assists.
In the 62nd minute of the second half, Lesh netted a goal of his own to give Johnson & Wales a commanding 3-0 lead and bring his tournament goals to 3 on the week. But Berkeley College never conceeded as they netted their first goal of the game in the 79th minute on a pentalty kick from Michael Paredes. With less than five minutes in regulation, the Knights continued to make the night interesting, bringing the game within one goal off the toe of Michael Mogollon.
With the score at 3-2, Josiah Davis closed out the game with a hat trick securing the title for the Wildcats by a final score of 4-2.
The Wildcats outshot the Knight on the night, 16-10, making for an action packed night between two high power offenses.
